Architecture

The range of architecture in Lucas Farms Neighborhood goes beyond the electic. Because the area was first settled as a farm, it developed very slowly over the decades. Each decade added yet another piece to what is now a patchwork of housing styles.

Gov. Lucas built the first residential structure here in 1844 and the last residential structure was built at 1006 Friendly Ave. in 2006.  It is believed we have houses representing nearly every decade of Iowa City's history. You will find the grace of the Georgian Revival style at Plum Grove, the opulence of a Victorian Italianate house, the quaintness of an Edwardian cottage, as well as craftsman bungalows, wing-style farmhouses, dutch colonials, Cape Cods, English-inspired Moffitt cottages, mid-century National component homes, contemporaries, split foyers, ramblers and ranches, and everything in-between!
