Friday, July 7

5:30pm and 7:00pm

Hidden History Walking Tours along Kirkwood Ave. Focusing on prohibition and depression era history of Lucas Farms - bootlegging, car racing, roaring twenties, hard times, and more! Starting at the Adenia brick wall at the corner of Kirkwood and Marcy Ave.

Saturday, July 8

1:00 to 4:00pm

Self-guided hidden history walk. Start at the ground of Faith United Church, 1609 DeForest. Free refreshments, restroom stop, kids’ games, history info, etc. Featuring stories from the 50s, 60s, and 70s on Lucas Farm’s eastside along Franklin, Ash, and Pine streets. Stories of Iowa’s 1958 trip to the Rose Bowl, the battle to conquer Polio, civil rights, Viet Nam, veteran’s stories, unsolved mysteries, and hear incredible stories from the 101 years of long-time Lucas Farms resident and historian Vivian Akers at 1313 Ash St.

1:00 to 5:00pm

Plum Grove Historic Site open for tours.

2:20pm

Tour de Farms Bike Ride hosted by Sandra Armbruster. This tour will feature a general history of our neighborhood. Meets up at the Iowa City Bike Library on Gilbert Court. Helmets required.

4:00 to 8:00pm

Project GREEN Open Gardens. Come and go and see these special gardens and properties at 629 Kirkwood Ave., 1216 Marcy St., 1215 Lukirk St., and 1411 Yewell St. Master Gardeners will also be onsite at Plum Grove.

6:00 to 8:00pm

The Old Man Band will be playing retro hits from the past at Resurrection Church Parking lot across from Highland Ave. Park. (1330 Keokuk St.)

Sunday, July 9

10:00am to 2:00pm

Project GREEN Open Gardens. Come and go and see these special gardens and properties at 629 Kirkwood Ave., 1216 Marcy St., 1215 Lukirk St., and 1411 Yewell St. Master Gardeners will also be onsite at Plum Grove.

1:00 to 5:00pm

Plum Grove Historic Site open for tours.

2:00 to 4:00pm

Metal Detecting Treasure Hunt at Gov. Samuel Kirkwood's home at 1101 Kirkwood. You can also enjoy a game of chess there as the University of Iowa's chess champion and math professor, E.W. Chittenden once lived there.

7:00 to 8:00pm

We are thrilled to once again have the Community Band of Iowa City close out our History Days weekend with a concert and a special number reflecting the prohibition and depression era history of LF.
